UPDATE: Walt Disney World Construction Project Paces Vary Greatly
Around the Walt Disney World Resort, multiple construction projects continue to grab our attention. Let’s take a look at the three biggest developments and the progress being made at Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and of course, the remarkable final pieces of EPCOT’s transformation.
Prepping Tiana’s Adventure for the Water Tower
With the new signature water tower for Tiana’s Food Place set to arrive this summer, the extensive scaffolding that surrounds the structure that once housed Splash Mountain proves crews might be “almost there.”
A large crane still stands perched in the same location as it has for weeks, also pointing to a possible placement for the water tower.
Though, in concept art shared at D23 Expo last fall, the water tower does sit much further to the front of the mountain. We do know that it will celebrate “Tiana’s Foods,” an “employee-owned” establishment created by the princess herself.
Still, little is known about how much the mountain’s facade will change in the new attraction. The scaffolding now surrounding the entire exterior proves that we can expect Tiana’s adventure to take on quite a different look once construction is complete.
This morning, crews appeared to be working on the scaffolding itself as well as on the actual track for the water-based attraction.
New DVC Resort Stretches Across Lagoon Site
With an opening date still on the horizon, the 2024 deadline for Disney Vacation Club’s newest resort appears to be propelling crews to work swiftly. The tower, which will join Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, adds over 200 rooms to the DVC portfolio.
Just a single wall in early March, the large structure continues to expands quickly both along the beach as well as towering into the Magic Kingdom resort area skyline.
Not only are crews working on the building itself but also enhancements to the grounds surrounding the resort. Though little details are known yet about amenities, Disney Vacation Club has said that the new resort will house dining options as well as additional recreational opportunities.
With the design of the concrete frame, we certainly cannot wait to see the interior grandeur (and the Seven Seas views) from the rooms at this new site.
Journey of Water and CommuniCore Prep for Fall Opening
Of all of the projects, the years-long projects at EPCOT show the most progress right now, as they should. Opening Fall 2024, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana and the Communicore Hall and Plaza will complete EPCOT’s evolution (for now).
Surrounding the gardens that sit at the center of World Celebration, CommunicoreHall will offer EPCOT guests plenty of room to relax and enjoy the four festivals hosted by the theme park annually.
Final touches continue over at Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, a walk-through attraction celebrating the playful characteristics of the natural element.
It’s such fun to see details like the attraction’s opening put into place. With the number of empty planter pots we spotted today, it’s fair to say that the horticulture teams continue to work tirelessly on the extensive foliage featured in the attraction.
Unlike most Disney attractions, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana also offers guests a glimpse of how the immense amount of water will flow through the exhibit. Though most attractions can hide their operations behind facades, the system for this unique concept sits right in the middle of World Celebration.
Prior to opening, one can expect foliage to surround much of the water filtration center though, based on Walt Disney Imagineering’s historic efforts to hide the magic that defines so many of its remarkable experiences. Stay tuned for our updates throughout the week!
