Walt Disney World Welcomes Gold Star Families To The Magic Kingdom
On this Memorial Day, it is only appropriate that we take a moment to honor those who have sacrificed everything in the service of our country.
We also remember and thank the families of those service members who never made it home.

For their part, Disney has a longstanding commitment to military veterans and their families.
A Day To Remember
Continuing in that tradition, and in recognition of National Military Appreciation Month, as well as Memorial Day, Disney’s SALUTE Veteran Employee Resource Group had the opportunity to welcome Gold Star families to the Magic Kingdom. They were joined by the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS).

TAPS is a nonprofit organization which provides support to the loved ones of fallen service members, also known as Gold Star families.
“It was a tremendous honor for TAPS to be welcomed to the Magic Kingdom by Disney SALUTE,” said Diana Hosford, Vice President, Sports & Entertainment of TAPS. “Our group of nearly 50 young adults, who all lost a military loved one, had a day in Walt Disney World to connect, bond, and share. Starting the experience with the Disney SALUTE team of military veterans recognizing the fallen was very meaningful.”

A Part Of The Grief Journey
Gold Star families came from across the country, to share their stories and find solace and support from those who have experienced similar loss. Disney was honored to help create some magic and memories for these special guests.
“Moments like this of joy and community are an important part of the grief journey,” said Diana.

In addition to hosting Gold Star families, Disney has also put out Missing Hero tables at Disneyland Resort hotels in honor of those who never made it back home.
“For the families of the fallen, every day is Memorial Day. As they honor their loved one’s service and their sacrifice for the protection and freedom of our country. Survivors are the living legacy of their heroes. That is an honor they hold in their hearts and carry with them every day.” Diana shared.
