Ron DeSantis to Announce Presidential Run Wednesday

After many months of speculation, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will officially announce his bid for President of the United States tomorrow, Wednesday, May 24.

Today, it was revealed that DeSantis will announce his bid via Twitter Spaces in a live conversation with CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday night at 6 pm EST.

Musk confirmed the upcoming Twitter Spaces conversation with this statement:

I will be interviewing Ron DeSantis, and he has quite an announcement to make. And it will be the first time that something like this is happening on social media and with real-time questions and answers, unscripted.

Musk did go on to say that he will not be endorsing DeSantis as President of the United States at this time.

In addition to the conversation with Musk, the DeSantis campaign will release an official campaign video on Wednesday night. DeSantis is also expected to hit the campaign trail as early as next week.

DeSantis and his campaign have likely chosen to lean into Twitter Spaces to make this major announcement in an effort to reach and connect with many of Musk’s fans, including over 140 million Twitter followers. Since Musk took over Twitter last year, the social media platform has also seemed to attract more of a conservative audience.

Another reason DeSantis might have chosen to make this announcement via Twitter Spaces is that in recent years, digital media seems to have gained popularity over traditional media, such as CNN and Fox News.

DeSantis’ announcement comes while he continues to attack The Walt Disney Company and Walt Disney World. For over a year now, both sides of being in a war of words that has recently led to lawsuits and Disney announcing they would no longer bring their “Lake Nona” employee campus to the Central Florida town of Lake Nona. This campus would have added over 2,000 additional jobs to the area, with the price tag on the project being over one billion.
