Here Are All The Shows Being Removed From Disney+

One of the biggest revelations from Disney’s Q2 earnings call last week, was the announcement that Hulu’s content would be integrated into Disney+ to create a “one-app” experience.

Along with that announcement came the news that Disney would also be removing content from Disney+ and Hulu.

“We are in the process of reviewing the content on our DTC services to align with the strategic changes in our approach to content curation,” CFO Christine McCarthy said

A New Streaming Strategy

The purge of content from Disney’s streaming services speaks to a large strategy shift from Disney.

Initially, Disney’s goal was to create as much content as possible in order to cultivate subscriber growth. Now that Diseny+ has established itself, Bob Iger says they are changing their thought process.

“We realized that we made a lot of content that is not necessarily driving sub-growth,” he said.

As recently as 2022, Iger told The New York Times that the company that Disney was not interested in licensing out its content, that however may be changing.

At the time, Iger stated that “[Disney was] basically selling nuclear weapons technology to a Third World country, and now they’re using it against us.”

What Will Happen To The Shows?

In an ever-changing media landscape, however, companies have to evolve. While there are currently no plans for where the removed Disney+ and Hulu shows go next, insiders report that Disney will likely strike a deal with a third-party platform to host the shows.

While the company has yet to comment on the upcoming content purge, the first round of removals is expected to come as soon as May 26.
