Disney’s Next Round Of Layoffs Will Start Next Week
According to insiders, the Walt Disney Company will begin its second round of job cuts next week, eliminating thousands of positions.
These cuts will include 15% of the company’s entertainment division.
While the specific jobs that will be targeted by Disney are still unknown, the cuts will span TV, film, theme parks and corporate positions, and are poised to affect every region where Disney operates.
Some of the affected workers will be notified as early as April 24.
A Company-Wide Restructuring
Last February, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that the company planned to eliminated over 7,000 positions, as part of a larger strategy to cut spending by $5.5 billion.
“We have made the difficult decision to reduce our overall workforce by approximately 7,000 jobs as part of a strategic realignment of the company, including important cost-saving measures necessary for creating a more effective, coordinated and streamlined approach to our business.” Iger said at the time.
At the time, Iger also revealed a company wide restructuring, that saw Alan Bergman and Dana Walden elevated to co-chairmen of Disney Entertainment.
As the company shifts its steaming strategy from subscriber count to profitability, the division is seeing major changes.
