Could A Group Watch Function Be Coming To Disney+?
So we’ve got some interesting news about the next feature that COULD be coming to Disney+. Some Disney-techies (who admittedly know much more about code than I do) have been looking at the logistics of the site and have found that some new code was added to the service last Friday (August 28th.)
Including to DisneyPlus Informer, there are screenshots (which you can view in the original article here) that suggest a group watch function is coming to the streaming service. According to what techies are seeing, the coding makes it look like there will be PIN code functionality which could provide a way for parents to monitor when and how their children use this function.
Though Disney has yet to announce anything official about the possible group watch feature, DisneyPlus Informer says that it looks like the service may provide a way for friends and family to engage with each other through emojis and chat features while enjoying the same Disney+ shows together. It would appear that the feature will be available to anyone with an active Disney+ account and that you can invite friends and family to join your party.
There is also speculation that the feature may make its debut in time for subscribers to use it for live-action Mulan which will make its debut on September 4th. Now unfortunately it also looks like you can only use the feature on a laptop or mobile device and NOT on the television. It also looks as if seven members can be in a group at the same time. In the case of Mulan it should also be noted that guests need to have Premiere Access to view the film which is as we mentioned $29.99 an account.
Other potential features noticed in the code is that every person should be able to control the video playback on their own device (meaning you can play and pause independent of the others in your party.) Another observation (and thank you so much DisInformer for clarifying this for us!!) is that you CAN watch the content across markets provided that title is available for both. This means UK and US friends could link up to watch Avengers: Endgame which is available as a title in both markets. However, this wouldn’t apply to a title like Onward which is available to view in the US but not the UK.
There are several interactive features that will be a part of the watch experience. Guests can share a wide-range of reactions including: smiling, winking, laugh, love, cry etc. There is also a limit to one watch party at a time.
Again, if you’re interested in the tech end of things then please check out DisneyPlus Informer’s page which shows all the coding to back-up the addition of a group watch feature to Disney+. Readers are also encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for further Disney+ news and updates!
