This Day in Disney History- April 17
Welcome back to our continuing trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- April 17.
April 17, was a slower day for Disney, but a big day for Disneynature, which had three different releases. So, let’s get started!
Mickey’s Amateurs Released (1937)
On this day in 1937, Mickey’s Amateurs was released.
The cartoon featured Mickey, hosting an amateur talent show starring Pete, Donald Duck, Goofy, Clarabelle Cow, and Clara Cluck.
Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln Shipped to New York (1964)
On this day in 1964, the Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln exhibit was flown from California to New York for the upcoming World’s Fair.
The exhibit was caught in traffic due to the opening of Shea Stadium and was late to the fair.
Disneynature Oceans Premieres (2010)
On this day in 2010, the Disneynature film Oceans premiered at the El Capitan Theater.
The film would be released on April 22, 2010.
The Orange Bird Returns (2012)
On this day in 2012, the Orange Bird returned to the Sunshine Tree Terrace.
In an early morning ceremony, a new Sunshine Tree Terrace sign featuring the Orange Bird, and the stand’s original figure returned.
Disneynature Monkey Kingdom Released (2015)
On this day in 2015, the Disneynature documentary Monkey Kingdom was released.
The documentary featured a family of monkeys living in the ancient ruins of Polonaruwa in Sri Lanka.
For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Closes (2016)
On this day in 2016, For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration closed.
The attraction, which originally opened in January 2015, would eventually be replaced with Mickey’s PhilharMagic.
Disneynature Penguins Released (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, the Disneynature documentary Penguins was released.
The film was narrated by Ed Helms and told the story of an Adelie penguin.
