Kathleen Kennedy Says Kevin Feige’s Star Wars Project Never Started — That Makes No Sense
While Star Wars fans were certainly thrilled to hear that three new feature films will be hitting theaters in the foreseeable future, one project that has remained shrouded in mystery is Kevin Feige’s planned Star Wars film.
While Kathleen Kennedy gave updates on similar previously announced films such as Rogue Squadron (canceled), Taika Waititi’s movie (delayed but still alive), and Rian Johnson’s film trilogy (he’s too busy), there has been little to no information on Feige’s Star Wars foray — until now.

Kathleen Kennedy Gives An Update
In an interview with IGN, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy gave a thorough, if confusing, update on the film.

“Kevin Feige’s project was something announced in the press, or I suppose fandom. But there was nothing. Nothing ever got developed. We never discussed an idea,” Kennedy told IGN. “As everybody knows, Kevin’s a huge Star Wars fan and if he did come up with something, I would be all ears. But that’s never really happened. So, it’s not an abandoned project, it just didn’t happen.”
Wait, What?
While Kennedy’s quote sounds fine out of context, it actually makes little to no sense.
In 2019, Feige’s involvement was announced to the public, with Disney’s then-chief creative officer Alan Horn even commenting on the project.
“We are excited about the projects Kathy and the Lucasfilm team are working on, not only in terms of Star Wars but also Indiana Jones and reaching into other parts of the company including Children of Blood and Bone with Emma Watts and Fox. With the close of the Skywalker Saga, Kathy is pursuing a new era in Star Wars storytelling, and knowing what a die-hard fan Kevin is, it made sense for these two extraordinary producers to work on a Star Wars film together,” Horn said

Feige and Walden Confirmed The Project
Two months after the initial announcement, Kevin Feige seem to confirm his intent to work on Star Wars, when he said “I love that world and I love the notion of exploring new people and new places in that universe.”

Although news on the project quickly quieted down, in May 2022, screenwriter and frequent Feige collaborator, Michael Waldron, confirmed that he was working on a script for Feige.
“It’s coming along, it’s nice to have some time to focus on it. And it’s fun to get to do something that feels fresh and original. I’m excited to work with Kevin again and with the team at Lucasfilm. And I love Star Wars. So it’s a blast.”
Hollywood Insiders Chime In
Following Kennedy’s latest comments, Hollywood insiders were not sold on the narrative she was trying to weave.
Matthew Belloni of Puck had this to say:
“Um, who is Kathy kidding?” Belloni wrote in his own report. “A lot of rolled eyes at Marvel this weekend because a) the Kevin Feige Star Wars project was (and still is) very much real, and b) Kennedy was only aware of it, she actually received periodic updates on its status, including when Marvel go-to Michael Waldron was hired to write it.”
Belloni and other insiders have suggested that Kennedy was never thrilled with the idea of Feige moving into Lucasfilm territory. After all, if Feige was successful there, it could be seen as an indictment of Kennedy and other Lucasfilm brass, especially considering Star Wars’ struggles at the box office.
In the end, the story of what happened makes little difference. The result is the same — Kevin Feige will not be releasing a Star Wars movie. And that should be a disappointment for all Star Wars fans.
