How to Celebrate Earth Month with Disney
April is Earth Month and Disney is going to celebrate! Disney does a lot to try and make the world a better place, including Disney Planet Possible.
Disney Planet Possible is Disney’s way of committing to support a healthier planet. They’re focused on reducing their environmental footprint, investing in animal care and conservation, and telling stories that inspire action.
This all goes hand in hand with the celebrations going on, so let’s talk about all of the ways you can celebrate Earth Month with Disney!
Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom will be celebrating its 25th anniversary on Earth Day (April 22nd)! At the park, the Disney Animals, Science and Environment team works hard at caring for the animals and connecting guests to nature.
They also focus on conserving wildlife all around the world, and inspiring others to do the same. In fact, since 1995, the Disney Conservation Fund has directed over $120 million (along with the expertise of their teams) to organizations working with communities to save wildlife, inspire action, and protect the planet.
This Earth Month, there are a lot of ways that you can celebrate Earth Day as well as Animal Kingdom’s anniversary! There will be new treats to try, special merchandise, rare character sightings, and even a National Geographic photo spot that will be at the entrance of the park!
The photo spot is celebrating the second season of Disney+’s Magic of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We should be finding out about even more celebrations soon, so be sure and stay tuned for that!
Disneyland Resort
Over at Disneyland Resort, there is a new fully plant-based menu at Paradise Garden Grill for the Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival. This will be available until April 25th!
There will also be some special guests coming to the festival — Kristen Kish from National Geographic’s Restaurants at the End of the World will come for a cooking demonstration on April 22nd and 23rd.
Disneyland Cast Members will also be sharing their love of Disney and the environment by designing works of art! These will be a part of the annual Environmental Art Challenge.
This art is made by using waste found in the work areas of Cast Members. Items could be park maps, plastic bottles, bubblewrap, and more.
You can even vote on your favorite art piece over at Stage 17! This is located in the patio area near the Super Store featuring Avengers Campus in Disney California Adventure park.
There will also be life-size elephant sculptures made out of recycled flip-flops at Downtown Disney inspired by the upcoming National Geographic series (which we’ll get to in a minute!).
Disney Parks Blog also said that they will be celebrating throughout April by sharing some of their favorite stories about how they’re working to help our planet. There will be an Earth Month blog takeover!
National Geographic
Secrets of the Elephants is a four-part series that will premiere on the National Geographic Channel on April 21st. The series from director and filmmaker James Cameron will also have all episodes on Disney+ and Hulu on April 22nd.
This miniseries travels the world to explore more about the language of elephants and how they’re similar to us. It’s narrated by actress Natalie Portman and features renowned National Geographic Explorer and elephant expert Dr. Paula Kahumbu.
The upcoming May issue of National Geographic’s magazine will also feature elephants, focusing on the behavior and biology of the Asian elephant. It will be available online and on the Nat Geo app on April 13th.
The May issue of Nat Geo Kids magazine will also focus on elephants, as well as a three-episode “Overheard at National Geographic” podcast series that will be out starting April 11th.
And, elephants will be the subject of the National Geographic book “Secrets of the Elephants” which will be published on April 4th. This book will act as a companion to the series.
Finally, National Geographic is releasing its spring line of its lifestyle collection themed to elephants and their habitats. This collection will soon be available on shopDisney and in the Disney Parks. Every purchase will help support the global nonprofit National Geographic Society.
Earth Month Disney+ Collection
Throughout April, Disney+ will be highlighting its conservation and nature-themed content through an “Earth Month” collection on the streaming service.
It will include some new titles like Born in Africa, Botswana, India’s Lost Worlds, Path of the Panther, Secret Life of Predators, Super/Natural, and Wild Japan Snow Monkeys.
Avatar Ocean Creatures
In celebration of the recent movie Avatar: The Way of Water, Disney and Avatar have launched the “Keep Our Oceans Amazing” global campaign. This campaign is to raise awareness about the challenges facing oceans and marine life in support of The Nature Conservancy (TNC).
As part of the campaign, you can enjoy experiences like the Virtual Pandoran Ocean. With this digital activation, fans can help Disney and Avatar “Keep Our Oceans Amazing” from now through July 31, 2023, by making an Avatar-inspired ocean creature at Avatar.com/KeepOurOceansAmazing.
For every creature that is created, Disney will give $5 to TNC, which will help the organization reach their goal of protecting 10% of the ocean by 2030.
