Some Of The Incredible Ways Disney Celebrates Earth Month All Year Round
April has arrived Disney friends and though today people are celebrating April Fool’s it’s also time to share a message of sustainability and conservation as it is Earth Month too!
Disney’s culture of conservation and environmental stewardship dates back to Walt Disney who once said himself, “conservation isn’t just the business of a few people – it’s a matter that concerns all of us.” From Disney’s first nature-focused documentaries dating back to the 1950s to the commitment to setting aside nearly one-third of Walt Disney World Resort property as a dedicated wildlife conservation area in the 1970s. Most recently The Walt Disney Company has set aside a 270-acre solar facility we continue this legacy of preserving nature around the world for future generations.
All month long, Disney Cast Members from around the world will be sharing ways that Disney can inspire you to be more environmentally friendly. You’ll find everything from delicious, environmentally friendly recipes to a sustainable gift guide and so much more!
And for those returning to the theme parks after time away, Disney has created environmentally friendly practices which includes sustainable offerings for our guests and fans around the world.
One of the key areas that Disney is working to make a difference is in their commitment to reduce single-use plastics and to harness the power of the sun. These efforts combined can reduce tens of thousands of tons of greenhouse gas emissions each year. Disney is also providing guests with plant-based dining options and sustainable seafood choices including more sustainable products and packaging.
Speaking of goals, I am pleased to share that this past year, we met The Walt Disney Company’s 2020 environmental goals and have now announced a new set of ambitious goals for 2030.
From achieving net zero emissions for our direct operations to zero waste going to landfills from our wholly owned and operated parks and resorts, these goals signify our commitment to ongoing environmental stewardship.
