BREAKING NEWS: Date Announced for Closing of Splash Mountain at Disneyland
According to a since-updated report, Disneyland had finally announced a date for the start of the Splash Mountain refurbishment.
The OC Register’s update said the attraction would allegedly be shutting down effective May 7. At that point, Splash Mountain would undergo a transformation similar to the one happening at Magic Kingdom and retheme as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

This would have meant that the last day for Disneyland fans to experience the traditional Splash Mountain ride in Critter Country would be on May 6th.
However, we had an unexpected bit of intrigue when Disney expert Scott Gustin disputed the report as inaccurate. The OC Register has since updated the original report to indicate it had incorrect information.
Here’s the correction from Brady MacDonald, someone who is a very good reporter:
“It appeared from Disneyland’s website early Sunday morning that the classic log flume ride would go dark in early May, but that information was not correct.” Hey, mistakes happen!
The current Splash Mountain debuted in 1989 and was inspired by controversial Disney film Song of the South. It follows the adventures of Br’er Rabbit and includes the popular Disney song. “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.” The film has not dated well, with Imagineers making the decision to retheme the attraction on both coasts to a more contemporary Princess and the Frog theme.

Disney has not announced an official opening date for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure as of yet. However, we expect that it will open on both coasts at some point next year! The new backstory for Splash Mountain will follow Tiana’s adventures in the bayou with Louis, Prince Naveen and the rest of the crew.

Earlier this year, Disney also began work converting New Orleans Square quick service eatery French Market into a new Princess and the Frog themed restaurant called Tiana’s Place.
If you’ve been following along with us you’ll know that Eudora’s Chic Boutique, named after Tiana’s mother, also opened in New Orleans Square last Fall.
So, Disney friends, you officially have more time to enjoy Splash Mountain in its current form at Disneyland Resort. We don’t know when the last day is, but it’s coming soon!
