All the Ways To Ride TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom!
TRON Lightcycle / Run is about to open in Disney World, but it’s not going to be easy to get a ride on the new roller coaster.
There are up to THREE different ways to ride TRON in a single day, but it all depends on some very specific factors — and no standby line will be available at first. Not sure what your options are? We’ve got all the details right here!
Before we dive in, know that in order to ride TRON you will need to meet the minimum requirements:
- Valid park admission
- Magic Kingdom Park Reservation
- My Disney Experience app
Valid park admission includes tickets or Annual Passes, a park reservation must be for Magic Kingdom OR you can have another park reservation and a Park Hopper ticket in one particular situation (we’ll get into it below).
We also highly recommend having the My Disney Experience app downloaded onto your phone, with your account logged in and synced to your tickets, group members, hotel reservation, and park pass.
Now that you’re all set up and ready, we’re going to show you all the ways you can ride TRON!
7AM or 1PM Virtual Queue
First, you have the opportunity to join the virtual queue, which opens twice per day. You can only join ONCE per day, with two possible time slots — 7AM or 1PM.
To join the 7AM virtual queue, you want to make sure you hit all the qualifications mentioned above, and above all — SET. AN. ALARM. For the first few months after opening, the virtual queue will likely go FAST (we’re talking seconds), and you want to be as ready as possible.
If you miss out on the 7AM queue or just want to sleep in, the 1PM queue is your next option. Remember, you can’t do both!
For the 1PM queue, you must be inside Magic Kingdom to join. Park Hopping does not begin until 2PM so you need to have a Magic Kingdom park reservation.
The 1PM queue tends to be slightly easier to join, so it’s a good option if you miss out at 7AM. Just remember to set an alarm!
Individual Lightning Lane
Disney will also offer TRON as an Individual Lightning Lane, which will cost you extra to purchase. During the soft opening of TRON, the Lightning Lane cost $20 per person, but this price can vary.
Disney World hotel guests can begin purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane at 7AM, but other guests have to wait until Magic Kingdom opens to purchase. This means that hotel guests get first dibs, and the Lightning Lane often sells out before park opening.
When purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane, you are generally able to select a time period of your choice, and they don’t usually (note: USUALLY) sell out as fast as the free virtual queues, so it can be a good backup option if you miss out on the virtual queue or if you want to ride TRON twice (virtual queue + Lightning Lane).
Guests have the option to buy up to two different Individual Lightning Lanes (per person), so make sure you prioritize TRON if you plan to buy another Lightning Lane.
6PM Virtual Queue
On select evenings, hotel guests staying at deluxe Disney World hotels are eligible to stay a few hours late in certain Disney Parks for Extended Evening Hours. The included hotels are listed below.
According to the upcoming calendar and beginning in April, Magic Kingdom will host Extended Evening Hours on the following nights (announced so far):
- April 5th: 11PM to 1AM
- April 12th: 11PM to 1AM
- April 19th: 11PM to 1AM
- April 26th: 11PM to 1AM
- May 3rd: 10PM to 12AM
- May 17th: 10PM to 12AM
- May 24th: 10PM to 12AM
- May 31st: 10PM to 12AM
Like the 7AM and 1PM virtual queues, make sure you set an alarm, and you must have your deluxe hotel synced to the My Disney Experience app to be eligible to join.
Because of the exclusive nature of Extended Evening Hours, the 6PM virtual queue can be easier to enter, but you must also have either a Magic Kingdom park reservation or a Park Hopper ticket if you have a different park reservation. You can enter the 6PM queue from anywhere as long as you meet all the eligibility requirements.
An Ideal Day
So all in all, let’s say you’re visiting Magic Kingdom on an Extended Evening Hours date, and you’re also staying in a deluxe hotel.
You have a Magic Kingdom park reservation and all your info and reservations are synced in the My Disney Experience app.
You have the opportunity to ride TRON up to three times in a single day if you manage to do the following:
- Get a spot in the virtual queue (either at 7AM or 1PM)
- Pay for an Individual Lightning Lane
- Enter the 6PM virtual queue
If you play your cards right and plan ahead, you get a better chance of riding TRON at least once during your visit.
