TRON’s Virtual Queue Sold Out FAST — Here Are Our Best Tips to Avoid Disappointment
TRON Lightcycle / Run will open to the public on April 4th, 2023 — but guests currently have an early option to enter the grid.
TRON will host a “soft opening” from March 20th to April 2nd, during which guests can ride the same way they’ll be able to ride beginning on April 4th — either via virtual queue or Individual Lightning Lane.
Whether you’re visiting Magic Kingdom for the soft opening or waiting for the official date, we’re here with ALL the details and info you need to know to board a lightcycle.
Get Your Tickets and Park Reservations
First of all, in order to be eligible to enter the virtual queue or purchase an Individual Lightning Lane, there are two very important elements you need.
You must have both valid park admission AND a park reservation for Magic Kingdom.
And that goes for everyone in your party/group too! Everyone needs a ticket and a park reservation.
My Disney Experience App
Once you have the My Disney Experience app downloaded, make sure you’re logged in and everything is synced — including your tickets or Annual Pass, park reservation, hotel, and group members.
This means you need everyone in your group linked to your account. If you don’t link everyone, they’re on their own to get in the virtual queue, and you could end up with very different boarding group times.
It’s easy to add people within the app, including by providing your linking code…
…or by scanning their linking code or entering their name and age.
This is not something you want to set up at the last second, so make sure you’ve got everything set up before you visit.
You’ll also want to make sure you have your hotel reservation synced within the app because, on select dates known as Extended Evening Hours, guests staying in deluxe hotels will have an additional opportunity to join TRON’s virtual queue at 6PM.
(We’ll get into this more below.)
And when it comes time to enter the virtual queue, scroll down the main page in the app until you find this section, where you can both join the virtual queue and check the progress of your boarding group, should you get a spot.
This brings us to what is probably the most important part of joining the virtual queue.
Timing is Key
Timing is everything! As long as you meet all the eligibility requirements mentioned above, you can enter the virtual queue beginning at 7AM.
If you miss the 7AM virtual queue, you can try entering at 1PM from inside Magic Kingdom, which means you can’t rely on park hopping (remember, that begins at 2PM).
As of this morning at 7AM, the virtual queue was filled within SECONDS. Yes, seconds! You can see in our screenshot below that it was still 7AM and the virtual queue was already full.
As a result, we STRONGLY recommend setting an alarm so you don’t forget! You can get to the virtual queue screen and confirm your party prior to 7AM (or 1PM), and you can also have someone watching the secondhand on their clock to help you count down.
And when the time comes, hurry! Don’t think or hesitate, just tap through as fast as you can. As long as you’re prepared, all you need to do is confirm your party and join the queue.
Know Your Options
Ultimately, you have up to 3 different opportunities to ride TRON:
- 7AM virtual queue OR 1PM virtual queue (you can’t have both)
- 6PM virtual queue (if you’re staying in a deluxe hotel on an Extended Evening Hours date)
- Individual Lightning Lane purchase
We’ve already talked about the requirements for the 7AM virtual queue, but if you miss it or prefer to sleep in, your next option is the 1PM virtual queue. In order to enter, you must be inside Magic Kingdom at 1PM, so Park Hopping isn’t an option.
If you have the budget, you can only purchase one Individual Lightning Lane for TRON per person, per day, and on the first day of the soft opening, the Lightning Lane cost $20 — and sold out within minutes.
Guests staying in Disney World hotels can begin purchasing Lightning Lanes at 7AM, but everyone else has to wait until park opening time. That means you’ll probably see the TRON Lightning Lane sold out before the park even opens.
If you miss out on the virtual queue or if you want to ride TRON at least twice (virtual queue AND Lightning Lane), this is a good option.
And the other potential option is only available to guests staying in a deluxe hotel specifically on an Extended Evening Hours date. You must also have valid admission and either a Magic Kingdom park reservation or a Park Hopper ticket if you have a different park reservation.
At 6PM, the queue will open to those who are eligible. Even if you’re able to get into either the 7AM or 1PM virtual queues, you can also enter the 6PM queue should you meet the required qualifications.
So before you get to Disney World, make sure you review everything here and have a plan! This is the best way to avoid disappointment and maximize your chances to ride TRON at least once.
