This Day in Disney History- March 14
Welcome back to our magical trip through Disney history. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- March 14.
March 14th featured the of a new Mickey cartoon, the debut of a new Disney parade, and the loss of a Disney Legend. So, let’s get going!
The Barn Dance Released (1929)
On this day in 1929, the Mickey cartoon The Barn Dance was released.
Directed by Walt Disney, the cartoon featured Mickey and Pete competing for Minnie’s affections at a dance.
Walt Disney Announced as Rose Parade Grand Marshal (1965)
On this day in 1965 it was announced that Walt Disney would serve as the Grand Marshal of the 1966 Rose Parade.
Magic Carpet ‘Round the World Closes (1975)
On this day in 1975, Magic Carpet ‘Round the World was shown for the last time in the Magic Kingdom.
The Circle-Vision 360 Theater had been running since 1974.
Howard Ashman Passes Away (1991)
On this day in 1991, playwright, lyricist and director Howard Ashman passed away.
Best known for his work on the classic Disney films Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid, Ashman would be named a Disney Legend in 2001.
Block Party Bash Begins (2008)
On this day in 2008, Block Party Bash officially opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Imported from Disney’s California Adventure, the parade replaced the Stars and Motor Cars parade.
Pixar Play Parade Begins (2008)
Also on this day in 2008, Pixar Play Parade began running at Disney California Adventure.
The parade replaced Block Party Bash as the park’s daytime parade.
Tiana Becomes a Disney Princess (2010)
On this day in 2010, Princess Tiana was officially inducted into the Disney Princess Royal Court.
On hand for the festivities were actress Noni Rose, who voiced Tiana in the Princess and the Frog.
Disney Springs Announced (2013)
On this day in 2013, Disney announced that Downtown Disney would be transformed into Disney Springs.
The project was expected to be completed by 2016. As part of the renovations, Disney Springs would feature more shopping dining and entertainment than its predecessor.
Disneyland Closes (2020)
Finally, on this day in 2020, Disneyland Park closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The park was expected to reopen at the end of the month.
