Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company! Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- March 8.
March 8th featured a Presidential visit to EPCOT, the debut of a new attraction at the Disney-MGM Studios, and the release of the newest Marvel movie. So, let’s get started!
A Knight For A Day Released (1946)
On this day in 1946, the Goofy short A Knight For A Day was released.
Directed by Jack Hannah, in the cartoon Goofy is preparing his knight Sir Lionsteak for a joust against Sir Cumference until an accident demands that Goofy takes his place.
Ronald Reagan Visits EPCOT Center (1983)
On this day in 1983, U.S. President Ronald Reagan visited EPCOT Center.
Escorted by Dick Nunis, Regan visited the park with several hundred math and science students from Central Florida.
Pirates of the Caribbean Opens in Tokyo Disneyland (1986)
On this day in 1986, Pirates of the Caribbean and Alice’s Tea Party opened in Tokyo Disneyland.
Doug Live! Opens (1999)
On this day in 1999, Doug Live! opened at the Disney-MGM Studios.
The 30 minute musical stage show was based on Disney’s Doug cartoon series. The attraction would close in May 2001.
Oz the Great and Powerful Released (2013)
On this day in 2013, Oz the Great and Powerful opened in theaters.
Based on the L. Frank Baum’s Oz novels, Oz the Great and Powerful was a prequel to the Wizard of Oz. The film starred James Franco, Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis.
Captain Marvel Released (2019)
On this day in 2019, Captain Marvel was released to theaters.
The film starred Brie Larson as Carol Danvers, one of the universe’s most powerful heroes. When Earth is caught in the middle of galactic war, Danvers must rise to the occasion.
