July 16th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a live-action Disney classic, the debut of a new fireworks show, and a celebration for a Disney Legend. So, let’s get started!
Alice in the Big League Released (1927)
On this day in 1927, Alice in the Big League was released.
The short would be the final Alice comedy created by the Walt Disney Company.
Dragon Around Released (1954)
On this day in 1954, the Donald Duck cartoon Dragon Around was released.
Directed by Jack Hannah, the cartoon sees construction worker Donald trying to remove Chip ‘n’ Dale from their home.’
Hocus Pocus Released (1994)
On this day in 1994, Disney released Hocus Pocus.
The film told the story of the Sanderson sisters, three witches brought back to life who attempt to steal the life essence from the town’s children.
George of the Jungle Released (1997)
On this day in 1997, the live-action comedy George of the Jungle was released.
Based on the 1967 cartoon of the same name, the film told the story of a primitive man raised by apes who falls in love with a wealthy American heiress.
Stuck in the Suburbs Premiers (2004)
On this day in 2004, Stuck in the Suburbs was released.
The Disney Channel original movie starred Brenda Song and Brittany Aarons.
Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Disney Dreams Premieres (2005)
On this day in 2005, Wishes: A Magical Gathering of Disney Dreams premiered at Disneyland Paris.
The Happiest Balloon on Earth Returns to Disneyland (2006)
On this day in 2006, Disneyland welcomed home the 100-foot tall Happiest Balloon on Earth.
The Mickey-shaped balloon had recently concluded an 11-city tour of the western United States and Canada.
Retirement Party Held For Marty Sklar (2009)
Finally, on this day in 2009, a retirement party took place for legendary Imagineer Marty Sklar.
Marty would receive a window on Main Street USA in Disneyland the next day.
