Let’s Recognize the Upcoming World Whale Day
This Sunday, February 19, 2023, is World Whale Day; therefore, National Geographic celebrates by sharing some fun facts and insights. So, let’s recognize these magnificent creatures with storytelling and photography.
Natural Beauty
Brian Skerry, a National Geographic Explorer award-winning photographer, travels across North America and shares his live presentation “Secrets of the Whales.” In addition, he leads trips where people can safely observe and learn about wildlife, as well as some photography tips.
During Skerry’s docuseries, “Secrets of the Whales” on Disney+, he and James Cameron show insights into whales’ lives and culture. In fact, whales are very much like people.
So Much in Common
First, whales pass down stories and traditions through generations, and they also visit the old homeplaces of their ancestors. Second, they segregate by language, and different clans have specific dialects. Whales may have their own American Idol because they also have singing competitions. However, in these singing competitions, males compete over mates.
More specifically, Orca whales form diet habits from their mothers and grandmothers. Let’s recognize that these habits are also based on where they live. Orcas range in their emotions, from love and joy to sadness and grief. Beluga whales vacation each summer, so fascinating!
Experience of a Lifetime
If you are interested in a life-enriching National Geographic Expedition, then you will experience amazing adventures from around the world. Many of them include whale observation!
Brian Skerry said, “Expeditions are awesome – Antarctica and the Galapagos are two of my favorites I’ve been on. As one of the experts on trips, you can have dinner with guests and they can ask personal questions about your career, and the next minute you can show them how to use and understand their camera equipment better or offer them tips on photography and production.”
Let’s recognize the beauty and majesty of whales for World Whale Day, and be sure to visit National Geographic Expeditions for a full list of itineraries.
