September 5th Is National Cheese Pizza Day!
It’s National Cheese Pizza Day! Do you know why there are so many great spots to grab a slice of pizza at Walt Disney World Resort? It’s simple! Every mouse’s favorite food is cheese, and every mouse’s favorite topping for pizza is cheese, cheese, and more cheese. Since Mickey is a mouse, he’s ensured that there are more than enough restaurants serving up his favorite food item across Walt Disney World Resort…so many, in fact, that you’d have to do a lot of research to compile a list of all the stops.
Lucky for you folks who will be visiting Walt Disney World Resort on National Cheese Pizza Day, we’ve done plenty of the very trying and very tedious research for you (read: eating an exorbitantly delicious amount of pizza) by visiting all of the pizza joints across the Resort. If you’re lucky enough to be at Walt Disney World for National Cheese Pizza Day on September 5th, not only are we jealous, but we’re forgiving you enough to let you in on our top pics for pizza! Let’s go!
Blaze
I love Blaze because not only are there endlessly customizable combo options of crusts, toppings, and cheeses to add to your pizza, but also because once the pie is assembled, it cooks in just 3 minutes! That means that your taste buds won’t have to wait very long between its creation and consumption, and trust me, when you’ve personally instructed the assembly of a pie that features exactly what you’re craving, there isn’t anything worse than a long wait. Whenever I visit, no matter the day, I always audition different combos of cheeses in the hopes of landing on a new ‘starring pie’! On National Cheese Pizza Day though, I would leave off my usual add-on of fresh greens at the end just to stick with the parameters of the National Day.
PizzeRizzo
If you’re looking for a quick, easy, and a guaranteed wait-free spot to grab a quick lunch on National Cheese Pizza Day, PizzeRizzo checks all of those boxes! The newly remodeled restaurant in Hollywood Studios kept the same recipes for their theme park-style mini pies as its predecessor, so you can expect to find the same “Pizza Hut Express-style” pies here as you would have found at the extinct Pizza Planet…but this time without the lines! I’m not sure if it was the change in theme or the decrease in guest attendance at Hollywood Studios (my bet is on the latter), but the restaurant never has a wait, and fresh cheese pizza is easy to come by!
TIP: If you’ve got kiddo’s in your travel party, this is the spot for you! The straightforward, small-size pies are perfect for small sized humans too!
Pizzafari
Over at Animal Kingdom, Pizzafari has recently ditched the flatbreads for a more traditional, MUCH cheesier version of classic pizza pies! You can stop in for a quick-serve lunch or dinner and order from the a la carte menu, or you can try out their new family-style meal if you’re really in the Italian spirit! The sit-down meal comes complete with appetizers, baked ziti, fettuccini alfredo and, of course, pizza!
Wolfgang Puck Express
If I have a bit of time on my hands and I’m not ravenously hungry (in which case I’d go to Blaze), Wolfgang Puck Express serves what is, in my opinion, the best margarita pizza outside of Via Napoli! The chewy, perfectly baked crust soaks up just enough of the fresh tomato sauce to give the center portion that wet, drippy quality that every good margarita pizza has while maintaining a sturdy, easy-to-hold slice whose ingredients create explosion after explosion of flavor with every bite! There are other options, like classic cheese, but I think the margarita classifies as a ‘cheese pizza’, don’t you?
Pizza Ponte
Fans of Sicilian-style, thick crust cuts, rejoice! The newly opened Pizza Ponte in Disney Springs is serving up enormous, extra-cheesy and gooey slices perfect for National Cheese Pizza Day! I visited the first day the restaurant opened, and I can say two things about the slice I got: It was blazing hot and it was blazing delicious. These slices are big (hey, not a bad thing!) and one will definitely fill up even the hungriest in your party at lunchtime. They’re also a great grab and go snack to enjoy while walking and shopping around Disney Springs!
Thin-crust margarita pies and thick-crust Sicilian slices are among the dozens of pizza options you and your family have to choose from on September 5th. If you’re looking for a sit-down style meal and you haven’t snagged an advance reservation, check out Trattoria al Forno over on the Boardwalk, chances are good the wait for a table won’t be very long if you time it before the dinner rush hits. Let us know which pizza you’re planning to enjoy on September 5th by leaving a comment!
