Florida Welcomed More Visitors in 2022 Than Any Year In The State’s History
There was time during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, that people wondered if the tourism industry would ever come back.
In Central Florida, Walt Disney World shuttered its doors for the first time in the resort’s history, as did fellow Central Florida attractions Universal Studios Orlando and Sea World.
Even has nationwide lockdowns were lifted, a “return to normalcy” seemed like a far fetched dream.
Well, I am happy to report that not only did Central Florida recover from the unprecedented pandemic, but it came back stronger than ever.
2022 Was Quite The Year
VISIT Florida released its tourism numbers today, and revealed that Florida welcomed over 137 million visitors in 2022.
Not only was this a 12% increase over 2021, but it was a 5% boost from Florida’s 2019 number. In fact, it was the highest number of visitors to ever visit the state!
The president of VISIT FLORIDA, Dana Yong, stated that the organization could not be happier with the results.
“Quarter after quarter, Florida continues to dominate the travel market and our competition, which could not be achieved without the hard work of our local tourism partners,” Young said.
Less Air Travel?
Interestingly however, according to the new data released 38% of Florida’s guests came via air travel. That was actually a 3% decrease from 2019, when 41% of visitors came by air.
Helping to boost tourism numbers in 2022, was the return of international travel. 7 million overseas travelers visited the Sunshine State last year.
As someone who loves to visit Florida, its great to hear that not only has the state survived the COVID-19 pandemic, its roared back stronger than ever.
