The Concept
The creation of Pandora- The World of Avatar was first announced back in September of 2011. At that time, Imagineers were saying that it would be like nothing Disney-goers had ever seen or experienced before.
Construction of Pandora first began in January 2014. For years, those visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom would see the floating mountains coming to life.
Pandora- The World of Avatar officially opened on May 27, 2017. Six years in the making, Imagineers delivered on an awe-inspiring experience that defies expectations to this day.
Director James Cameron and producer Jon Landau even played an integral role in the creation of Pandora- The World of Avatar. They worked alongside Walt Disney Imagineering to bring James Cameron’s incredible vision to life including early renderings and models.
Pandora- The World of Avatar Grand Opening
During the Grand Opening, the original cast of the film had a chance to walk the land they helped create in the film and were visibly moved by the experience.
The general public would soon agree and Pandora-The World of Avatar was officially named one of “The World’s Greatest Places” by Time magazine.
As we mentioned earlier today, in celebration of Avatar: The Way of Water the young cast of the film revisited Pandora. Cast and crew from the film also assembled to create a thank you to cast members for bringing Pandora- The World of Avatar to life. You can check out the video here.
