CONSTRUCTION UPDATE: Finishing Touches Being Adding to TRON Coaster Ahead of Spring Opening
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog, you’ll know that excitement over the upcoming debut of the TRON Coaster at the Magic Kingdom is reaching fever pitch. Our MickeyBloggers are spending the morning in Tomorrowland where they nabbed some awesome photos of the final bits of construction being completed on TRON.
The TRON Coaster is expected to officially open on April 4, 2023.
Catching a glimpse of the TRON Coaster lightcycles being testing is a common occurrence in Tomorrowland these days!
The indoor/outdoor coaster inspired by Disney’s TRON films is a massive addition to Magic Kingdom skyline.
Its large white open-air canopies tower over their surroundings.
These canopies will be illuminated at night to give guests the feeling that you’re soaring through cyberspace.
Once the ride opens, Magic Kingdom visitors will climb aboard your own lightcycle and take off on a high-speed adventure as Team Blue on an epic quest across the “Grid.”
During the ride, guests will attempt to cross through 8 Energy Gates and race your team to victory!
Once open, the TRON Coaster will have the distinction of being one of the fastest Disney Coasters in the World.
During our visit this morning, there was only a small amount of construction work currently underway.
Engineers were on hand for the ride testing.
Here’s a first look at the completed ramp to get up to indoor entrance of the ride.
You can see the futuristic lightning that will illuminate the path after the sun goes down.
There was still some landscaping work being carried out on the queuing ramp.
It looks as if a small garden and perhaps sign is being added to the ramp.
In the image above, you can also check out the futuristic Restrooms sign that has been added to the second level.
So, it does look like there will be some amenities at the location of the TRON Coaster.
As we made our way around the track of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, a green crane was brought in.
It looked like it was perhaps assisting with some additional signage.
Disney has said that they will be holding a soft opening of the attraction.
This is usually offered for Cast Members, DVC Members and Annual Passholders.
Disney has not given us dates yet but we’ll let you know as soon as we hear more!
In the meantime, we’ll continue to give you weekly updates of how things are coming along with the Coaster!
Below is a look at bulbs being added to the new lighting fixtures.
As we previously mentioned, there is also a tunnel under the TRON Coaster that supports the Walt Disney World Railroad.
This is already completed and the the railroad is now in service. It’s a great way to get a look at the NEW TRON coaster!
