James Cameron Will Not Attend Avatar: The Way of Water Los Angeles Premiere
James Cameron will unfortunately not be able to attend the Los Angels premiere of Avatar: The Way of Water on Monday. According to Variety, Cameron has contracted COVID-19, but is asymptomatic and feeling well
Although Cameron will be absent, Monday’s premier will still feature the films star-studded cast, which includes, Kate Winslet, Zoe Saladana, Signourney Weaver and Sam Worthington. Also on hand, will be Bob Iger, who is expected to make his first public appearance since returning as the Walt Disney Company’s CEO.
The Los Angles event would have been Cameron’s first Hollywood premiere since the original Avatar debuted in 2009. Despite being confined to his home, Cameron will still do publicity for the film virtually.
Avatar: The Way of Water will see its general release on Friday, and expectations remain through the roof. Following last week’s London premiere, critics raved about the film’s visuals and storyline.
Disney is hoping that The Way of Water will find the same kind of success that its predecessor did. 2009’s Avatar remains the highest grossing film of all time. Early estimates have the sequel projected to gross at least $150 million on its opening weekend.
Avatar: The Way of Water takes place more than a decade after the events of the original film, and tells the story of Jake, Neytiri, and their kids as they defend Pandora from a new threat.
