This Day in Disney History: November 25
Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events that occurred on this day in Disney history- November 25.
Today’s history features the release of a massive Disney movie, a record breaking soundtrack and the debut of a new attraction in Walt Disney World. Let’s get into it!
Ferdinand The Bull Released (1938)
First up, on this day in 1938, Ferdinand the Bull was released.
Disney’s newest short, Ferdinand the Bull tells the story of Little Ferdinand who would rather smell flowers than butt heads with the other bulls.
The cartoon featured the voice of Disney Legend Milt Kahl as Ferdinand and Walt Disney himself as the bull’s mother! Additionally, Don Wilson, best known for his work with Jack Benny, served as the cartoon’s announcer.
America the Beautiful Debuts (1971)
On this day in 1971 America the Beautiful debuted at Walt Disney World.
The CircleVision 360 film was originally shot for the 1958 World’s Fair in Brussels. While the film was initially a Circarama film, a version was released in 1960 at Disneyland.
After a series of re-shoots the film was redone as a CIrcleVision 360 film in 1967, before coming to the Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland in 1971.
Aladdin Released (1992)
On this day in 1992, Disney’s Aladdin was released.
A musical take on the Aladdin and the Magic Lamp story, Aladdin features the music of Alan Menken, Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.
The film tells the story of Aladdin, who finds a magic lamp containing a genie. With the genie’s help, Aladdin disguises himself as a wealthy prince in order to marry Princess Jasmine.
Aladdin would go on to become the highest-grossing film of 1992, and garner two Academy Awards, unquestionably becoming a Disney classic.
Main Street Electrical Parade Ends (1996)
On this day in 1996, the Main Street Electrical Parade finally ended its Disneyland run.
Since its 1972 debut, it is estimated that nearly 75 million people have watched the parade at Disneyland.
Although touted as the end of the Main Street Electrical Parade’s time at Disneyland, the procession would return for limited engagements in 2017, 2019, and 2022.
Frozen Soundtrack Released (2013)
Finally, on this day in 2013, the Frozen soundtrack was released.
Frozen: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features 10 original songs composed by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Rober Lopez. Among these are “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”, “Love is an Open Door”, and the film’s hit single “Let it Go”.
The soundtrack would go on to top the Billboard Top 200 chart, and eventually be certified 4x Platinum.
