Avatar Heads Back To Theaters Ahead Of Sequel
After more than a decade since its original release, Avatar will be back in theaters September 23rd for a limited time.
Movie goers will have the chance to rewatch Avatar on the big screen before the sequel: Avatar 2 ‘The Way of Water’ is released later this year.
Avatar was written, directed and produced by James Cameron in 2009. The film takes place on Pandora, a lush and habitable moon in the Alpha Centauri star system.
Humans have invaded Pandora in an attempt to colonize the moon in search of a rich mineral called unobtanium.
Meanwhile, as the humans expand their mining colony, the local Na’vi tribe’s very existence is being threatened. Scientist, Dr. Grace Augustine (Sigourney Weaver) and her team are tasked with studying the Na’vi tribe.
Dr. Grace’s bodyguard, paraplegic Jake Sully uses Na’vi-human hybrids called “avatars” to get closer to the Na’vi.
While escorting Dr. Grace and her team, Jake is attacked by wildlife in Pandora. A female Na’vi named Neytiri rescues Jake and takes him to her mother, clan leader Mo’at.
Jake and Neytiri fall in love, pledging to protect the clan and Hometree from the humans. Mo’at insists that Jake be initiated into the clan. Therefore, giving Jake a second chance at using his legs again.
Catch the original Avatar in theaters September 23rd and then see the NEW sequel, Avatar 2: Way of Water in theaters December 16th 2022.
In Avatar 2: The Way of Water we catch up with Jake and Neytiri who are about to face more hardships and will stop at nothing to protect their family.
