Disney+ Removes Original Avatar in Lead-In to Upcoming Sequel Release
Criticism is cropping up online over the fact that Disney+ has recently removed James Cameron’s original Avatar Film ahead of the sequel which will be coming out in theaters this December.
According to a recent piece on The Independent, the original Avatar film appeared on Disney+ after the company’s acquisition of Fox but is currently no longer available to stream on the service ANYWHERE in the world.
Disney has said nothing about the removal but fans are speculating that the timing of the move coincides with the release of the sequel as well as Disney’s plans to rerelease the original Avatar in theaters this Fall.
Some are convinced that the move is Disney’s way of driving audiences to the theater to see the original. This however isn’t sitting right with some Disney+ subscribers who argue they are already paying a monthly subscription fee which should include access to the film.
Not for nothing but also surprised by the lack of chatter on here that Disney+ pulled Avatar to boost ticket sales for an upcoming theatrical re-release. Everything on streaming can go away at the flick of a switch!

These Twitter posts serve as a warning that when it comes to streaming, there’s nothing to stop titles from disappearing from networks at any moment.
“Disney Plus has taken off Avatar, I guess as they’re gonna re-release in cinemas and it just shows up the importance of owning physical media,” one person suggested.
