Only a Small Segment of TRON Coaster Canopy Still Needs Covered
Since we were at the Magic Kingdom today, we here at MickeyBlog decided to drop by Tomorrowland for another TRON Coaster update.
As per usual we hopped on the PeopleMover to get a bird’s eye view of the construction site.
One of the things we’ve been tracking over the past few weeks is the work being done on the canopies.
We’ve watched the canopies come together panel after panel and are so excited to see how much progress that was made.
At the moment, there’s only a few segments of the massive canopies that still need to be covered.
That means that we’re starting to get a look at what the finish coaster looks like and its stunning.
As you can see from the ground surrounding the coaster it is still very much a work in progress.
If you look carefully below you can see the new tracks being laid for the Walt Disney World Railroad.
Its hard to see from this vantage point but there’s actually a tunnel built in that actually runs under the coaster.
Disney fans are excited that the completion of TRON construction also means the return of the Walt Disney World Railroad which has been closed the entire time that TRON construction has been taking place.
You can see work still being carried out at the queue area.
There’s also some external work still being done to the building that houses the indoor portion of the coaster.
We do know that the ride vehicles are in place and that testing of the lightcycles themselves has been underway.
In case you haven’t been following along with us the new TRON Lightcycle coaster is inspired by the popular headlining attraction at Shanghai Disney.
Guests board lightcycles for a ride experience based on the famous sci-fi films TRON.
There’s an indoor portion of the ride before guests zoom outside underneath an illuminated canopy.
Its meant to give guests the idea that your racing through cyberspace.
This is such a beautiful panorama of the ride!
It really gives a sense of how large in scope this ride really is.
Another great spot to check out the construction site is in Storybook Circus near The Barnstormer.
From there you can get a view of the back of the coaster including the railroad tunnel.
The TRON coaster is located between the Tomorrowland Speedway and Space Mountain.
We absolutely love watching the incredible team of construction workers on this attraction.
They’ve had to scale some pretty impressive heights to get these canopies in place.
You can see the big cranes needed to lay the panels at the top of the canopies.
The photo above shows the TRON Coaster looming behind the Tomorrowland Speedway.
You can see in these images that the far right-hand side of the dome still needs the canopies.
The shot below really shows how cool its going to look under the canopy.
There was at least one worker scaling the heights of the dome this morning.
The outer canopies of this coaster are HUGE and drastically change the Magic Kingdom skyline.
As of going to print, Disney has yet to announce and official opening date for the attraction.
This is a story that we’ll continue to follow closely.
We promise to keep you updated as we know more!
