VIDEO: Disney Wish Heads Into North Sea On Long Journey to Port Canaveral
Its a month of milestones for the the latest ship in the Disney Cruise Line Fleet – The Disney WIsh. If you followed along with us last week you may have seen the news that the Disney Wish has officially left the shipyard in Germany and is now on the North Sea. This is a momentous occasion as it marks the first time that the ship has been on the open water.
It took 24 hours for the Wish to sail along the River Ems on a maiden voyage that included navigating locks, drawbridges and tight clearings. You can see the entire process below in this awesome video Disney recently shared: .
As you can see from the video, the entire process required teamwork, precision and attention to detail. Conditions needed to be just right to sail along the River Ems. This includes the need for a Full Moon to raise the tides to make the river deep enough to traverse. The ship also needed to travel backwards, stern-first.
This was an important occasion not only for Walt Disney Imagineers but also for the locals in Papenburg and Leer. Many local spectators lined the riverbanks to catch a glimpse of the new ship! Families even got to wave to some familiar friends!

The Disney Wish arrived safely in Eemshaven, Netherlands where it will now begin a series of “sea trials.” Then it will be time for a transatlantic crossing as the ship readies to welcome guests this Summer on Bahamian sailings out of Port Canaveral.
