Some Awesome Facts About Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
What an exciting day this has been for fans of Star-Lord, Groot, Gamora, Rocket and Drax! We now have an official date for the opening of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, an new indoor coaster coming to EPCOT on May 27th.
This thrilling new family-friend coaster is located in the park’s newly renamed World Discovery neighborhood and will be the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at EPCOT. As the backstory goes, Xandarians have traveled from their homeworld to Earth to build Wonders of Xandar, where Disney World guests can learn more about the people of Xandar and their advanced technology. That is until the Guardians arrive…
To put you in the mood for this first-of-its-kind attraction we thought we’d share some awesome fun-facts with you. Let’s dive in:
A Series of Firsts
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will offer a few fun firsts including:
- The first coaster attraction at EPCOT
- The first reverse launch for a Disney coaster
- The first Walt Disney World attraction to feature the Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Wonders of Xandar
Highlights of this extraordinary pavilion set up by the Xandarians include:
- The Galaxarium- This sweeping planetarium-style space will showcase planets, stars and other intergalactic wonders.
- The Xandar Gallery – Guests can discover more about the Xandarian people, culture and history (including the heroes of Xandar) through specially crafted displays and projections.
It’s Big!
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be one of the longest fully enclosed coasters in the world. It will also be housed in one of the largest show buildings ever constructed for a Disney theme park.
Move Over Spaceship Earth
To give you a sense of the size and scale of Cosmic Rewind, by volume, four Spaceship Earths could find inside the attraction’s massive new show building.
Familiar Faces Return
Academy Award nominee Glenn Close will reprise her role from Guardians of the Galaxy as Nova Prime, the leader of Xandar and commander of the Nova Corps.

On Set Inspiration
Disney Imagineers actually visited the set for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. to film with the Guardians for this new attraction.
First-Of-Its-Kind Starblaster
The stunning Starblaster you see in the image above has pride-of-place just outside the Wonders of Xandar building. It is the first full-size version of this Xandarian ship EVER BUILT!
