Let’s Celebrate National Pie Day Disney Style
Today is national Pi day! For those unfamiliar, Pi is a number that is used in math to help describe the relationship between a circle’s circumference and its diameter.
You may ask, what does this have to do with Disney but you’d be surprised how important the number pi is when it comes to theme park design.
Mathematicians and engineers alike use tis formula regularly when designing some of your favorite theme park attractions.
To get a week bit technical, Pi or π as it is commonly written is defined as the ratio of a circles circumference to its diameter and is a mathematical constant which equals 3.14.
From Disney birthday badges to your favorite treats, you can use the number pi to discover the circumference of your favorite circular Disney treats. Simply use a ruler to measure the diameter of the pie and then multiply that number by 3.14.
This principle applies to any circle no matter how big or how small.
You can even see Pi in action during your next Disney visit. Disney Imagineers used math principals like pie to design attractions like Mad Tea Party!
You can even test your Pi Day knowledge with a special quiz Disney created over at Kahoot. You’ll find the link here.
