Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Theory: Could Queen Be Overtaking?
We recently found a theory by Reddit user u/xiviajikx surrounding the iconic attraction, Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith that we found so interesting, we had to tell you all!
Now, before we go on, please remember that this is just a theory and is no indication or confirmation of the future of the attraction. Until official word comes from Disney themselves, nothing is confirmed.

Disney’s original licensing deal for Aerosmith’s discography is coming to an end in 2022, meaning that the resort must come to a decision soon to negotiate and resign once again with Universal Music Group.
If this isn’t possible, or the two can’t come to an agreement, Disney will have to retheme the attraction and the soundtrack to exclude the band.
While on the topic of Universal Music Group, please be aware that this company is not attached to NBC Universal and Universal Studios. Universal Music Group is a separate entity owned by Tencent, Vincent Bolloré, and others.
Now take into consideration the fact that there is currently scaffolding around the iconic guitar that overtakes a good portion of the show building and leads to the entrance of the attraction.
The scaffolding and tarp have been in place since late September and are currently an eyesore for those approaching the attraction.
This could, of course, be simply a cosmetic refurbishment to refresh the area given that the Walt Disney World Resort is celebrating its 50th anniversary currently.
Other attractions such as the Mad Tea Party and it’s a small world have undergone cosmetic refurbishments in anticipation of the celebration recently.
However, this brings us to our last point. How much Aerosmith merchandise have you seen in the Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster gift shop recently? The answer is extraordinarily little.
All of this together makes the future of Aerosmith’s appearance at the coaster a little bleak, which begs the question: but what band could take over?

The answer is, my dear friends, Queen.
When Disney was imagining up Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster, their plan was to always feature a timeless band that would rock both young and old who board their stretch limousines.
(Fun fact: the original choice for the attraction was The Rolling Stones, who were not chosen due to Aerosmith proving to be cheaper!).
Now, what timeless band has the ability to capture the hearts and eardrums of all generations? Put on Bohemian Rhapsody and you’ll soon find out.

Of course, Disney is a business, and like any business, they will try to reduce costs where possible. This includes not signing any more licensing deals with record labels to feature their artists.
And as it so happens, The Walt Disney Company already owns the rights to Queen’s discography under Hollywood Records and even owns the rights to 2019 biographical drama about the band, Bohemian Rhapsody.

So there we have it, folks, the theory of Queen overtaking Aerosmith on Rock ‘n’ Rollercoaster. Once again, thank you u/xiviajikx for this theory!
