Tom Holland Confirms ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ May Be His Final Marvel Movie
With the next installment of the MCU’s Peter Parker only a month away, Tom Holland confirms that Spider-Man: No Way Home may be his final Marvel movie.
Marvel Studios broke conventional wisdom when they struck a deal with the entertainment giant Sony, for the use of Spider-Man in their films.
The character was a property of Sony after the studio bought the rights from Marvel comics during a sale to save the publication from bankruptcy in the 1990s.
2016 saw the debut of this Spider-Man in the lauded Captain America; Civil War, with the character being portrayed by the young and brilliant performer Tom Holland.
Holland was an instant success as the MCU Spider-Man; his age contrasted perfectly with the much older Marvel roster of heroes, he had undeniable charisma rooted in a certain awkwardness, he was funny, smart, and inherently likable as a character.
That was six years ago, and what has transpired is a collection of Spider-Man solo films and Avengers adventures that the character has become a key part of.
Next month’s film, it appears, may be the end of an era for Marvel, as uncertainty certainty looms over the future of the film’s cast.
In a new interview, it appears Tom Holland confirms that Spider-Man: No Way Home may be his final Marvel movie.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, holland Spoke a lot about the upcoming third Spider-MAn film he’s done with Marvel STudios; while being incredibly open regarding whether or not his Marvel career would continue after this outing.
Hollan first spoke on his approach to the film by commenting on his longstanding Marvel collaboration with Zendaya’s Mary Jane, and Jacob Batalon’s Ned.
Holland told the publication, “We’ve been making these films for five years now, We’ve had such an amazing relationship, the three of us. We’ve been with each other every step of the way.”
“We’ve done every single film, every single press tour. So this one scene, [we didn’t know] if this would be the last time [we were all working together.]” Holland continued, “[It] was heartbreaking but also really exciting because we’re all moving into the next chapter of our careers.”
“So sharing that moment with them was maybe the best day I’ve ever had on set. I don’t think I’ve cried like that ever.”
Perhaps the most signifying remark made by Holland was in reference to how the cast and crew were treating the film; noting the finality in the project, and the conclusion that the entire team felt comfortable arriving to.
“We were all treating [No Way Home] as the end of a franchise, let’s say, I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you’d be seeing a very different version.” Holland continued, “It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy. We would give it some time and try to build something different.”
Holland concluded, “Whether that happens or not, I don’t know. But we were definitely treating [No Way Home’ like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it.”
There is a lot of uncertainty as to what these statements mean; could Holland play Sony’s returned Peter Parker? Coul the character simply be recast in the Sony Universe of Spider-Man properties?
One thing is certain, in his own words, we can verify that Tom Holland confirms Spider-Man: No Way Home may be his final Marvel movie.
