‘Cruella’ is Officially Getting a Sequel With Emma Stone Set to Return
Fans of Disney’s wildly imaginative take on the classic villain should be overjoyed as news has recently surfaced that Cruella is officially getting a sequel!
With the green light hitting Cruella 2, fans can expect to revisit the classic character they got to know better in the Disney+ film, Cruella; and the one they were introduced to in 101 Dalmations.
The movie was one of Disney’s first live-action film releases in the post-COVID-19 year that saw a near decimation of classic box office numbers.
The news hit earlier this summer that Emma Stone may have been unhappy with the contractual arrangements regarding the films simultaneous Theatrical and Disney+ release via the companies premiere access package.

Things even went as far as to suggest the actress mulled the possibility of following the lead of former Disney actress Scarlett Johansson; opting for legal action against the studio.
It appears that this news not only assures Disney, and Disney fans, of Stone’s comfort with the “fair compensation” that CEO Bob Chapek discussed during the Q3 earnings call; but it also seems to alienate Johansson in her decision to engage in litigation against the company.

For Stone to already sign on to be the star of the Cruella sequel, it must mean that any contractual alterations between then and now were enough to satisfy the actress’s feelings of mistreatment.
With this deal done, it is likely that this way of conducting contracts will be the new normal for Disney; which was perhaps the first studio facing the uncharted territory of compensating talent-based in a new and previously unexplored distribution model.

Emma Stones agency, Endeavor, released a statement on behalf of their executive chairman Patrick Whitesell, stating,
While the media landscape has been disrupted in a meaningful way for all distribtuors, their creative partners cannot be left on the sidelines to carry a disproprorionate amount of downside without the potential for upside. This agreement demonstrates that there can be an equitable path forward that protects artists and algins studios’ interests with talent.
We are proud to work alongside Emma and Disney, and apprecitate the studio’s willingness to recognize her contributions as a creative partener. We are hopeful that this will open the door for more mmebers of the creative community to participare in teh success of new platforms.
The news of a Cruella sequel will certainly excite some, but it does express the shifting perception of Disney by displaying to the public their ability to strike a deal with one of Hollywood’s most notable stars.
