No Kidding: Star Wars R2-D2 is a Tamagotchi!
Soon, you can take your favorite Star Wars droid everywhere….
Those of us of a certain age reared prior to the advent of cell phones, will remember one item nearly guaranteed to end up in the desk drawer of your least favorite teacher or professor.
Tamagotchi.
However, and I hate to do this, but having never owned a Tamagotchi (I would have sneered self-righteously when folks made the long walk to the front of the room), I turn to Wikipedia for a quick explanation of the toy.
Tama fans! It’s the out-of-this-world announcement you’ve been waiting for! 🔭https://t.co/cc3CjUJHAP#StarWars #Tamagotchi

Tamagotchi is a keychain-sized virtual pet simulation game. The characters are colorful creatures with simple designs based on animals, objects, or people.
Meanwhile, your virtual pet could be R2-D2.

Tamagotchi, the classic interactive virtual pet, will soon release its first-ever Star Wars device celebrating the galaxy’s greatest astromech. The Star Wars R2-D2 Tamagotchi arrives on November 11, and it’s up to fans to train, clean, and take care of the famous droid.
“Star Wars has proven to be a timeless franchise and one that fans are eager to continue exploring, which makes it an absolute thrill to be able to incorporate it into the Tamagotchi experience,” says Takayoshi Oyama, manager, Business Management Team at Bandai.
The R2-D2 Tamagotchi is an epic collaboration to be a part of and we can’t wait to see how fans of the franchise react to this out-of-this-world device!”
Artoo Arrives in November
When Artoo becomes available, you’ll be able to take home a white or blue version. As R2-D2’s new master, you can train the droid to learn 19 different skills, tasks that include Dejarik (holochess) and firefighting. There are mini-games to unlock. And all of the work to keep R2 happy keeps the Jawas away.
Seriously.
