As you can see from the post above, guests going forward will no longer be required to wear facemasks outdoors!

However, don’t get ready to make a bonfire out of all of your facemasks just yet. Universal has said that it will still require face coverings in all indoor locations. This includes shops ad restaurants.

In addition, face coverings will still be required at ALL of the attractions at the theme parks from the time you enter the queue to the time you exit the ride. Guests are still responsible for their own face coverings and 3″ social distancing will be enforced at the parks.
So basically this means that guests can remove face masks when walking, sitting on a bench, dining outdoors etc. However, you’ll still want to keep them close by for the instances mentioned above.

So Will Disney Follow?
I’m sure the big question that all of you MickeyBlog readers want to know is whether Disney is expected to follow suit? Historically Universal likes to be ahead of the game and egg Disney on in what is a friendly rivalry.
However, just because a policy is passed at Universal doesn’t mean that Disney will follow. Since reopening the parks, The Walt Disney Company has made clear that they will always err on the side of caution in order to keep guests and cast members safe. With this in mind, we’ve seen Disney maintain health and safety policies until the time is right.

But just yesterday during the company’s quarterly earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Chapek expressed a great deal of optimism in terms of the way Disney theme parks are bouncing back post pandemic. He revealed during the chat with investors that Disney World has already begun increasing capacity.
We also previously reported here at MickeyBlog that temperature checks have been done away with and theme parks and resorts are currently in the process of covering all 6″ of social distancing signage. In addition the parks are no longer propping open all garbage cans which was another COVID precaution.

Chapek also teased during the call that there are some changes coming in the weeks ahead that guests visiting in the Summer are sure to like! I don’t know about you but not having to wear masks in the weltering 90 degree heat would be top of my list.
Here is Disney World’s facemask policy as it currently stands.
As you can see from the image above, Disney has yet to update their “Know Before You Go” page. However, this is something we’ll be monitoring closely and we promise to let you know if/when that changes!
