Gas Shortages in The Southeast Impacting Those Driving to Walt Disney World
if you live in the Southeast or plan on traveling to anywhere in the Southeast – including Walt Disney World – over the next few days, be warned – you will most likely have issues finding gas for your vehicle.
The current gas shortages in the Southeast are due to the Colonial Pipeline being hacked last week and being forced offline. The Colonial Pipeline supplies gas to the Southeast with some exceptions.
In fact, one of those exceptions is the state of Florida. Florida actually receives 90% of its gasoline supply from ships that sail into local ports across the state.
While experts have said that there is no need for anyone in the Southeast, or the United States, to panic and go out and fill up their cars, many have done so. In turn, this has led to a gas shortage across the South and there are signs it is starting to spread.

Just yesterday, in the metro Atlanta area, we drove 40 miles yesterday and only saw two gas stations that had gas. And, the lines at those stations were extremely long.
The gas storage has also caused the governors of Florida, Georgia, and a few other states to declare a state of emergency.

As of 5 pm yesterday, it was announced that the Colonial Pipeline was back on line and thing should return to “normal” within the next few days.
If you are currently at Walt Disney World and have plans to drive home or plan on driving there the next few days, you will want to be aware of the gas shortages. My suggestion is to download the Gas Buddy app as it will tell you in real time what stations around you currently have gas available.
