80% Of Disney Cast Members Return to Work
In its quarterly earnings call on Thursday, Bob Chapek revealed that 80% of Disney cast members asked to return to work, have indeed returned.

The positive news comes on the heels of a troublesome year for the majority of Disney’s cast members. Tens of thousands of Disney employees were either laid off or furloughed during the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. It seems Chapek wanted to make it a point to extend his appreciation for those cast members during The Walt Disney Company’s second quarter 2021 financial earnings call.

During the call on May 13, Bob Chapek, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, stated:
“In terms of labor, we had about 80% of our cast members return that we’ve asked to return. And obviously one of the gating factors is to continue to get more and more cast members back, it thrills us to be able to do that. We’ve had no problems whatsoever in terms of trying to get our cast to come back and make some magic for our guests.”

It’s been an emotional roller coaster ride for both Disney cast members and Disney fans over the past year. When Walt Disney World reopened its gates to the general public back on July 11, cast members lined the streets and waved to guests while offering a warm “welcome back”. There was not a dry eye in the house. The same rang true for Disneyland’s official reopening two weeks ago on April 30.
There is no question that The Walt Disney Company would be nothing without its cast, and this past year has proven that to be truer than ever. We hope to see more employees return to the company in the coming months.
