Ms. Marvel Cast Celebrates with Matching Tattoos
Ms. Marvel is already taking off, with filming already underway in Georgia and heading to Thailand in the next month, excitement is increasing each day for the new series.
It seems as though even the cast is experiencing the buzz centered around the upcoming Disney+ series, as five of them decided to celebrate the show with matching tattoos of Ms. Marvel’s lightning symbol.
Ms. Marvel (in the form of Kamala Khan) is still relatively new to the scene, having her first appearance in the Marvel comics in 2013, before getting her own comic series in 2014.
Khan is a 16-year old Pakistani-American girl from New Jersey who grows up idolizing Captain Marvel while struggling with the everyday struggles of a teenage girl.
Sana Amanat, producer and co-creator of Ms. Marvel the character spoke to the Inquirer and had this to say about the upcoming series,
I think it’s incredibly important that we tell young women and young girls that they have this incredible power within themselves, and that they have heroes out there [who] … they can look up to, especially in these times.
Ms. Marvel is also set to be appearing in Captain Marvel 2 alongside Brie Larson portraying Captain Marvel and Teyonah Parris who will be reprising her role of Monica Rambeau from WandaVision.
Iman Vellani has been cast to portray Khan, and is born to Muslim immigrants just like her character.
Marvel had stated that the plan was to always stay true to the character of Khan when casting the titular role of the series, and Vellani’s casting will certainly be an inspiration to people everywhere.
The Disney+ series will be Vellani’s first major Hollywood production, however, that doesn’t mean she’s a complete newbie to the industry. At the 2019 Toronto Film Festival she was involved in the Next Wave Committee, adding tags to films that she believed would resonate with her peers.
