Marvel Will Reportedly Film in Australia ‘For The Foreseeable Future’
Disney and the team at Marvel have become the standard-bearer for excellence in big-budget cinema since their cinematic universe launched with their premier title Iron Man in 2008.
The company has produced over a decade’s worth of cinematic accomplishments in the way of both their ability to cohesively construct a shared universe on a mass scale and the incredibly high bar of excellence in quality that is unmatched for any similarly attempted endeavor.
News recently surfaced that has suggested a small shift in how the team at Marvel is going forward with producing and creating their films.
The Daily Telegraph has noted that Marvel, whose films have consistently been shot in the Atlanta area since the inception of the Disney-backed MCU, is transferring the headquarters of their operation to Sydney, Australia; at least, “for the next five years”.
The reasoning behind the move has been deduced as being the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic-related happenings in the states.
The Atlanta-based production facilities were forced to shut for an extended period of time; prompting Disney and Marvel, to seek ulterior modes of production amidst heightened pandemic protocol.
There have been rumors that Marvel head Kevin Fiegi is seeking to make the move permanent, although it is unclear what the state of the nation, and the Atlanta area specifically, will look like five years from now.
It is important to note, due to the CGI-centric shooting schedule, there is little necessity for the studio to commit to one area.
The play for Marvel seems to be finding a “home base” that allows them the most freedoms to resume their consistent workload and create films at the pace they had been in the pre-pandemic world.
The Sydney community has seen an influx of Hollywood helmed projects; with Byron Bay ever-growing in popularity among studios seeking to operate amidst a pandemic that has so limited production capabilities in the USA.
With Marvel having a wide array of titles expected in the near future, the hope is that the Australia transplanting will continue the rather steady studio production seen in the filming of The Eternals and Thor: Love and Thunder.
