Gov. Gavin Newsom Said Talks Continue With Disneyland Regarding Reopening
California Governor Gavin Newsom made a statement today that talks are continuing between the State of California and theme parks including Disneyland and Universal regarding getting “people back to work” at some of the larger and smaller theme parks in the region.
According to a piece on DEADLINE, Newsom said that “good faith” negotiations are underway and are based on a “health first frame mentality.”
Newsom also went on to suggest that further details regarding the ongoing negotiations could be revealed later this week.
“We’re going back and forth,” said Newsome during a Q&A following his statement before the cameras and added that that state is “doing our own research on the viability of reopening the theme parks sooner rather than later.”
During the conference Newsom added, “I want to see more businesses reopen.”
If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you know that talks between Disneyland and Newsom have been tense. Last Thursday Newsom announced that he was in “no hurry” to reopen the theme parks even after Disney announced the need to cut 28,000 jobs across domestic theme parks citing a lack of a Disneyland reopening plan as one of the primary causes.
As you can see from the image above, last Thursday tensions reached fever pitch when Dr. Pamela Hymel, Chief Medical Officer for Disney said in a written statement, “We absolutely reject the suggestion that reopening the Disneyland Resort is incompatible with a “health-first” approach. The fact is, that since March we have taken a robust science-based approach to responsibly reopening our parks and resorts across the globe. Our health and safety protocols were developed in consultation with epidemiologists and data scientists, and after considering guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and experts in local government and health agencies.”
