Benedict Cumberbatch Returns As Doctor Strange For Latest Spider-Man Film
We’ve got some very exciting news for all you fans of Marvel’s Doctor Strange and/or Benedict Cumberbatch! According to a recent piece in The Chicago Tribune, the actor will be back to reprise his role in the upcoming Spider-Man film alongside Tom Holland!
This news is significant for fans following along with the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it marks the 3rd crossover between films produced by Disney’s Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures who technically owns the rights to the Spider-Man franchise!. Robert Downey appeared as Tony Stark/Iron Man in Spider-Man Homecoming (2017) and Samuel L. Jackson brought his role of Nick Fury to Spider-Man: Far From Home. (2019).
As the Chicago Tribune points out, having Doctor Strange appear in a Spider-Man film isn’t too much of a stretch. Afterall, both characters are based in New York City. The two superheroes also shared screen time in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War when the squared off against Thanos.
The next Spider-Man film is slated to start shooting in November in Atlanta. Tom Holland, Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori are al expected to reprise their roles in the film.
In addition to his Spider-Man appearance, Cumberbatch is also due to star in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness for Marvel Studios. The film will be directed by former Spider-Man director Sam Raimi. The film is slated to go into production in November in London which means that Cumberbatch will be juggling a tight schedule!
However, the big takeaway from this news is that Spider-Man will continue to fit nicely within the Marvel Cinematic Universe despite squabbles over rights. If you’ve been following along with MickeyBlog you’ll know that after the billions that Far From Home raked in, there was a bit of a struggle over rights between sony and Disney. However, it would appear that at least for the time being, the two companies have found a way to work together.
