How Zendaya Went From Disney Star To Emmy Award-Winning Actress
The 72nd Annual Academy Awards may have happened two nights ago but the world is still talking about Zendaya who (in what was the most exciting moment of the night) managed to scoop up the Emmy Award for leading actress in a drama series! That makes her the youngest person to win a Primetime Emmy award in that category.
For most of us DIsney fans, our families crew up watching Zendaya as a child star on the Disney Channel before eventually shifting to the big screen in Spider-Man and The Greatest Showman to her award- winning performance as Rue – a 17-year old who has struggled with drug abuse and rehab.
Zendaya became a household name in Disney Channel’s Shake It Up all the way back in in 2010. The show, which she co-starred in along with Bella Thorne ended up being a massive hit amassing 6.2 million viewers for its premiere episode. That made it the 2nd highest rated premiere in Disney Channel history. The story followed the girls as they fulfilled their dream of becoming professional dancers.
From there Zendaya went on to star in a number of projects for the channel including Good Luck Charlie, Frenemies, Zapped and KC Undercover. In 2012 she also released an album with Hollywood Records which had the hit single Replay.
And who remembers Zendaya completely stomping it on Dancing With The Stars? As MetroUK tells us she was just 16 when she took part and finished in 2nd place.
We’ve also linked the Hollywood Reporter roundtable above where Zendaya completely blew away other panelists that included Jennifer Aniston, Helena Bonham Carter and Reese Witherspoon with her incredible poise and pearls of wisdom!
An in 2015, Zendaya got her own Barbie featuring a dreaded look that she positively dazzled in at the Oscars that year. And it’s only been a meteoric rise from there! Zendaya has gone on to be the face of CoverGirl, was cast as MJ in Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Greatest Showman and the Spider-Man sequel Far From Home. However, it was Euphoria that has cemented her transition as a formidable actress. Here’s a quick look at Rue:
In a previous interview with Deadline, Zendaya said, “Playing her as a character has opened me up in a lot of different ways and exposed a lot of things and emotions.” She continues, ‘A role like that requires you to be a lot more open and a lot rawer with your emotions. If you aren’t, it won’t work.’
CONGRATULATIONS ZENDAYA!
