Construction Update: Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster
Construction is a touchy subject at Disney World these days! Though some projects are continuing like the TRON coaster coming to Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom others have been silently brushed to the side post COVID-19 (Mary Poppins ride?) However, it looks like Guardians of the Galaxy fans won’t be disappointed as the indoor coaster which will open in EPCOT’s Future World looks like its gaining momentum.
Crews were hard at work working on the roof of the building during our visit to EPCOT today.
Partitions are still up making it hard to see what’s going on inside but we’re sure it will be EPIC!
As of going to print, no official opening day has been announced for the project. We suspect this to be pushed back due to the COVID-19 closure but we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more.
Though details on the coaster remain scarce, we do know that Imagineers are referring to it as a storytelling coaster and have said that the building is large enough to fill 4 Spaceship Earths inside it!

Back in 2018, we also got a first look at the ride vehicles (see above.)
As well as a look at the rendering of what the outside of the attraction will look like!
Whoa! Disney just gave a snippet of what the all-new Guardians of the Galaxy rollercoaster will look like. He described it as a story telling coaster, drawing a rider’s attention to the story portrayed. #epcot pic.twitter.com/N8eMluad5P

We’re sure it’s come a long way since then but Disney also shared a mock-up of how the ride would work which you can see above. This is from November 2018. During our visit today, we also found out from a cast member in the area that the ride will apparently go from 0 to 70 MPH in 3 seconds…WHILE GOING BACKWARDS! Sounds intense!
