Reports: Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Shooting Soon?
This is NOT new news. But the speculation persisted throughout the week with little letup – the Obi-Wan Kenobi series seems set to start shooting soon.
Of course, the saga of the Disney+ Kenobi show (movie, mini-series, kabuki play) feels interminable.
And it sorta is….

WeGoThisCovered.com recounted just the most recent stops:
- After it was announced that the entire crew had been sent home just as pre-production was starting to gather pace, a lot of Star Wars fans were getting worried that the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series might end up being canceled altogether.
- Disney and Lucasfilm’s track record of handling the franchise has been less than stellar to put it lightly, so you can understand why people thought they might have dropped the ball yet again.
- Returning star Ewan McGregor was quick to pour cold water on the idea though, confirming that the show was definitely still happening, and shortly after, The Mandalorian‘s Deborah Chow signed on to direct the entire run of episodes, with King Arthur: Legend of the Sword writer Joby Harold taking over scripting duties from Hossein Amini.
- Shooting wasn’t expected to begin until next year given that Obi-Wan Kenobi won’t be arriving on Disney Plus until 2022.

Straight From The Top
But beyond the speculation, here comes Kathleen Kennedy. The Lucasfilm boss told TheWrap (later cited by comicbook.com) that series director Deborah Chow was already working.
“It’s been very exciting to see the talent that’s come in. And we’re now developing the limited Obi-Wan Kenobi series with Deborah Chow. And she’s just been doing a phenomenal job,” Kennedy told the site, who also quoted Chow saying:
It’s definitely going to be different, just in terms of the sheer workload, obviously, of doing the whole thing… But in some ways, I’m going to miss having a team, and having people who are there to bounce ideas off of. But then obviously the flip side is, it is nice to have a coherent voice and know what you’re doing from beginning to end.
Note that Kennedy said limited series. And no news yet on the drop date. But we’ll let you know ASAP.
