Star Wars: Kenobi Announced; The Mandalorian Trailer Debuts At D23
In the end — the very end — most Star Wars fans attending D23’s Disney+ Panel on Friday night got precisely what they wanted.
They heard that the next season of The Clone Wars will debut in February; learned the heretofore unnamed Cassian Andor series will begin filming next year in London.
Then fans watched as Show Runner Jon Favreau introduced the first official trailer to The Mandalorian.
And, finally, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy asked Ewan McGregor to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
First Look: The Mandalorian
Before we get into the new show, let’s check out The Mandalorian trailer – Star Wars first live-action series:
What I like about this trailer is the resemblance to Rogue One; the same gritty feel of the galaxy with nary a lightsaber-wielding superhero to save ANYONE. Oh, and by the way, there’s a dude in a mask coming after you.
Sure, we know next to nothing about The Mandalorian, but chances seem good that there’s going to be some substantial character development amidst the action. There’s a lot of old school western (and OT Star Wars, for that matter) influence evident in the clip.
And, we have more than one planet to visit (with more than one climate). And, what a cast! Disney+ picked a great show to be its flagship.
Kenobi, McGregor: The Jedi Returns
So, after seeing that trailer, it couldn’t get any better for Star Wars fans. Well, until Ewan McGregor walks onto the scene.
Hello there! Just announced at #D23Expo: Ewan McGregor will reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new original series, coming to #DisneyPlus. pic.twitter.com/UfMXztiQ6b

Calling for music, Kennedy called McGregor — a.k.a. Obi-Wan Kenobi — to center stage, where, after a loud standing ovation, the pair enjoyed a short conversation.
“Kathleen, can you ask me, in front of all of these people; all of these witnesses,” began McGregor, “Can you please ask me, ‘Am I going to play Obi-Wan Kenobi, again?'”
Kennedy asked: “Ewan. [Yes] Are you going to play Obi-Wan Kenobi, again?”
McGregor answered, “Yeeeees.”

He then laughed about the numerous years and interviews in which he had to keep his mouth shut, “But now I can say it.”
Kennedy added, “I also will tell you we are really close. We have all the scripts written. We are ready to start shooting next year. We could not be more excited.”
Join the club, Kathleen. Join. The. Club.
