Don’t Miss It: Season 2 of Amphibia Debuts on Disney Channel Tonight!
For those looking for some family-friendly programming for your Sunday night, we’ve got you covered! Amphibia is making its Season 2 debut on the DIsney Channel at 8:20pm tonight and we couldn’t be more excited!
The unFROGettable first season introduced fans to Anne Boonchuy who finds herself magically transported to a fantastical world inhabited by frog people. This includes the Planters, a family that would come to love Anna (who is voiced by Brenda Song) as one of their own. Last Season, Amphibia focused on Anna’s frog out of water story that centered around her sometimes rocky adjustment to her NEW life in Wartwood. Other awesome characters you met include Sprig (voiced by Justin Felbringer); his pollywog sister Polly (voiced by Amanda Leighton); and their curmudgeonly grandfather Hopadiah Plantar (voiced by Disney Legend Bill Farmer who is also the voice of Goofy.)
Now, as we look ahead to Amphibia’s second season, this incredible world is expanding even more as you’ll see what lies beyond the mountains that surround Wartwood. You’ll also find out more about how Anna ended up in Amphibia in the first place.
In tonight’s premiere, Anne and the Plantars leave the marshland behind for the metropolis of Newtopia. According to Matt Braly, executive producer on the show, in Season 2 you’ll find the characters traveling around, meeting new characters and exploring new locations!
According to a recent piece in D23, as the season begins, we realize that Anne isn’t the ONLY human in Amphibia. The music box that brought her to this brand new world also worked its magic on her friends Sasha and Marcy. If you followed along with Season 1 then you know that Anne and Sasha were reunited where it was revealed that their relationship was complicated.
In Season 2, we’ll also be finding out what Hop Pop might or might not know about Anne’s “calamity box,” which was the name given the music box that transported Anne. The season will also include and homage to Gravity Falls. Braly (who was a storyboard artist on the 2012 season said, “I probably shouldn’t say much, but I will just say that two very familiar faces will be showing up in the show in a way that no one will be expecting.”
Amphibia viewers should also keep an ear out for a lineup of guest stars that includes Kermit the Frog; Jenifer Lewis and Keith David, both of The Princess and the Frog; George Takei (Star Trek); Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville and Michelle Dockery; the voice of Daisy Duck, Tress MacNeille; Marlow Barkley, Mia Allan, and Ella Allan of ABC’s Single Parents; Haley Tju of Big Hero 6 The Series; Susan Egan, the voice of Meg from Disney’s Hercules; and Flula Borg of Pitch Perfect 2.
