Disney Commemorates Make-A-Wish Milestone In Grand Style
Disney and the Make-A-Wish Foundation are celebrating a milestone, just in time for World Wish Day.
This weekend, Disney granted its 150,000th Disney-inspired wish to 16-year-old Mikayla from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
“This is an incredible milestone moment in our more than 40-year relationship with Disney.” Said Leslie Motter, Make-A-Wish America President and CEO. “We know that wishes have the transformative power to renew hope, uplift spirits and unite families. When you pair that with Disney stories, characters and experiences, lives are forever changed thanks to the unmatched joy that’s delivered when it’s needed most.”
An Unforgettable Day At The Magic Kingdom
For her wish, Mikayla and her family were granted a magical day at Walt Disney World.
During their time at the Magic Kingdom, Maikayla and her family were surprised with the honor of being Grand Marshals for the Festival of Fantasy Parade. To add little extra magic to the parade, the group traveled down Main Street in their very own coach.
After enjoying the parade, the family met some of Disney’s most iconic characters. Then, Mikayla and her family were given an extra surprise. To mark the historic milestone, the family was given an opportunity to spend the night in the Cinderella Castle Suite.
“We are so thrilled that Mikayla is able to have this opportunity to celebrate the journey that she’s been on,” said Mikayla’s mom. “You never anticipate they [your children] are going to experience a life-threatening situation, but it’s been amazing to see how much good can come from something bad. We get to create these wonderful new memories together and not focus on the ones that maybe weren’t so pretty.”
More To Come
Finally, to commemorate the milestone, Disney went above and beyond. After learning that Mikayala was an aspiring singer who dreamed of one day performing at Disney, the company is scheduling a “royal performance” later this summer to top off its 150,000th wish.
Disney also announced that it has raised over $1.5 million for local Make-A-Wish chapters through sales of their specialty plate. Soon, new plates will go on sale, giving Disney fans another opportunity to support a great cause.
