Will Mulan Be Delayed (Again)?
The interweb exploded with speculation today, as major outlets wondered “out loud” whether Disney’s next big movie — Mulan — would premiere in July.
Walt Disney Co. is considering postponing the July 24 release of “Mulan,” according to a person familiar with the matter, a rescheduling that could call into question hopes across Hollywood and the movie-theater industry to have cinemas up and running next month.
“Mulan” [remains] the first major studio film scheduled for release after theaters are expected to reopen in July.
That has made it an arbiter of Hollywood’s plans at large. Any postponement on Disney’s part would likely force exhibitors and other studios to re-evaluate current reopening schedules.
Watching Mulan
MickeyBlog.com has long watched the live-action Mulan; firstly excited about the makeup of the reboot. Secondly, we hoped to learn if the story would stick to the script of the animated classic. And thirdly, we reported on the delays necessitated by the COVID-19 epidemic:
Mulan Is Slated To Be THE FIRST Film to Open At Cinemas After Lengthy Closure
Mulan Coming Soon?
However, the world is anything but predictable. But there clues as to Disney’s next play.
Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro posted:
Even though the $200 million Niki Caro-directed movie built up a great degree of awareness in its marketing earlier this year with a Super Bowl trailer drop that yielded over 12 million views on social media, recent promotions for the live-action remake of the 1998 Disney musical remain conspicuously absent. Instead, Disney released a trailer for 20th Century Studios’ Matthew Vaughn action pic The King’s Man over the weekend ahead of its September 18 release. Huh?
Later This Week
And Skyler Shuler of The DisInsider tweeted:
If I'm Disney, I'm releasing this film in December. https://t.co/r5SY7iZRBN

[A]n official decision will likely come later this week. That said, I was also told that they plan on keeping this film a theatrical release and that they have no plans for VOD/Disney+ drop.
Skyler’s synopsis is good enough for me. I’ll be looking for an announcement in the next few days.
We’ll have the coverage right here on MickeyBlog.com.
