‘Little Mermaid’ The Comedy Series? That’s What NBC Has In Mind
Though this is not a Disney project, there’s enough fans of The Little Mermaid that we thought it worth mentioning that NBC is currently looking at a comedy series based on the classic tale called Washed Up. This will reportedly show the mermaid all grown up!
According to various reports coming in from the media, The Little Mermaid series will be available on NBC’s streaming service and will cover her years after getting married. The film is expected to follow the original story of the Hans Christian Anderson tale which ends on a slightly darker note than the Disney film.
The setting is reportedly 15 years after the mermaid gives up her underwater life and will see the princess as an unhappy, unmotivated woman trapped in an unhappy marriage. However, things take a dramatic turn when her dad passes away. When the mermaid expects foul play and epic adventure ensues as she tries to save her underwater kingdom and humanity itself.
The series will reportedly be written by Gracie Glassmeyer and Jennie Snyder Urman who are best known for their work on Jane the Virgin. This isn’t the only Little Mermaid update that we’ll see in the near future. Disney is working on a live-action version of The Little Mermaid based on the classic Disney animated film.
