Taika Waititi and Friends Read Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach For Charity
Because what the World needs right now is Taika Waititi, Meryl Streep, Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch and more reading from Roald Dahl’s classic “James and the Gaint Peach.” Best of all this new initiative by some of our favorite Marvel and Disney stars is actually being done for a good cause- to raise funds for the charity Partners In Health.
Partners in Health just announced that Waititi will be hosting this 10-episode, multi-week series via YouTube to benefit PIH’s global work and response to COVID-19.
Check out the clip below:
As you can see from the clip above, the Thor: Ragnarok director leads viewers through the beloved children’s story with help from a virtual Who’s Who of Hollywood. This includes Meryl Streep, Ryan Reynolds, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cara Delevigne, Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett and Lupita Nyong’o.
The first two episodes are now available on the Roald Dahl YouTube channel. New episodes will be released every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 1 p.m. EDT.
Those following along are encouraged to donate to PIH. The Roald Dahl Story Company has committed to matching the first $1 million donated and has been a longtime supporter of PIH.
As a matter of fact, Roald Dahl’s daughter Ophelia was one of the organizations first supporters. You can check out a message from her in the clip below.
The campaign around James and the Giant Peach will support PIH’s work in the fight against COVID-19. One of the ways they hope to accomplish this is with the launch of a new unit aimed at helping under-resourced health entities in the US build and refine contact tracing measures.
In an official statement, the charity says, “PIH knows that the best way to defeat any new disease is to rely on and invest in local health systems that deliver high-quality, dignified care. Through health system strengthening and long-term partnership, PIH offers an antidote to despair and demonstrates that injustice has a cure.”
