Hilary Duff Sees Hulu as Proper Spot for Lizzie McGuire
We’re heard (and reported) that things over at the new Lizzie McGuire show are less than dreamy. Last summer, Hillary Duff told the world that she would return to her most recognizable role in a new Disney+ series.
Hello Hulu?
Then, yesterday, Hilary Duff — Lizzie herself — posted to Instagram asking for her new show to be moved to Hulu.
Cydney Henderson of USA Today provided some analysis:
Duff’s request comes days after the LBGTQ inclusive series “Love, Victor,” inspired by the 2018 film “Love, Simon,” was moved from Disney+ to Hulu over its mature content.
On Wednesday, the actress shared a screenshot on her Instagram Story of an article titled, “‘Love, Simon’ TV Show Pulled From Disney+ as It’s Not ‘Family Friendly.'” Duff wrote alongside the article, “Sounds familiar,” according to E! News.
A Different Creative Direction
In January, series showrunner and creator Terri Minsky stepped down.
“Fans have a sentimental attachment to ‘Lizzie McGuire’ and high expectations for a new series,” said a Disney spokesperson at the time to Variety. “After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.”
As for Duff, she explained, “I feel a huge responsibility to honor the fans’ relationship with LIZZIE who, like me, grew up seeing themselves in her.”
Here’s hoping that fans are seeing Lizzie McGuire — on one of the Disney streaming services — sometime soon.
